With redevelopment set to begin at Rodney Park in the next couple of months, residents were relocated to Shepparton and the remaining furniture was cleared out.
Shepparton Villages chief executive Kerri Rivett said they decided to donate the furniture to some not-for-profit organisations in the community.
‘‘We donated a range of furniture, things that these guys really needed ... chairs and tables which they required, so it’s great that they’ve gone to a new home,’’ she said.
‘‘When we refurbish here we will get all new furniture, the community gives back to us all the time, so it is time for us to give back to the community.’’
Mooroopna Men’s Shed secretary Stan Cornish thanked Shepparton Villages for the donation, saying their old furniture was long past its expiry date.
‘‘We were able to refurbish our office and our clubrooms so all the members are able to sit there and be comfortable, it’s a fantastic offer that Shepp Villages has given to us and we really appreciate that,’’ he said.
MEAC manager Jan Phillips said the furniture was a welcome addition and something they were unable to afford themselves.
With many Rodney Park residents attending MEAC for activities each week, Ms Phillips said the centre was grateful for their ongoing support.
‘‘It’s the gift that keeps on giving, people that use our centre are enjoying it, we have been able to save money and have been able to utilise what wasn’t going to be used by Shepp Villages, so it was an enormous gift to us and the community,’’ she said.
