In celebration of a collaborative two years, Shepparton Culture Kitchen is hosting a range of events which will see the community step into its kitchen.

In production with Multicultural Art Victoria, Greater Shepparton City Council and Point of Difference Studio, Shepparton Culture Kitchen is one of five projects supported through VicHealth’s Art of Good Health program.

Along with a digital Shepparton Culture Kitchen watch party, a round of six interactive events spread across two days invite attendees to explore food through a different lens.

“A healthy food culture includes a large mix of different cultures and traditions and foods that are created with love and shared with others,” Shepparton Culture Kitchen’s Agoness Kuol said.

The Culture Kitchen’s Ane Fotu, Ree Peric, Shakilla Naveed, Eman Alabbassi, Yusniza Yusoff, Leaisa Pele and Agoness Kuol have collaborated with artist Jamie Lewis to develop the events at St Paul’s African House.

Running across Friday, May 13, and Saturday, May 14, the sessions include everything from Ms Yusoff teaching the art of making Malaysian curry puffs to tracing Ms Fotu’s journey from Tonga in an intimate dinner, song and dance experience.

In sharing their own stories, food cultures, traditions and contemporary influences, attendees can expect to be filled with wisdom, along with some delicious cuisines.

“Food is a celebration of both life and family. It is up to us to shape that culture in our homes and around our dining tables,” Ms Yusoff said.

The program will include screenings of the Shepparton Culture Kitchen digital stories, created by local artist Mimi Leung.

The enrichment of the women of Shepparton Culture Kitchen is also accessible on Thursday, May 12, in a lunch time livestream.

The Shepparton Culture Kitchen watch party will take a deep dive into the project, along with touching on new perspectives on healthy eating and providing insights on how cross-sectoral partnerships can provide to the community.
