Cheryl Collins, Michelle Huxtable, Clare O’Sullivan, Celine Collins Bye, Elsie Oliver and Vanessa Raven are joining the school in various capacities, including teaching, staff support, occupational therapy and counselling.
Ms Collins Bye already worked at the school once a week but 2023 sees her working at the school full-time as the school’s occupational therapist and mental health practitioner.
“I work two days as a mental health practitioner, so mainly doing counselling with students and also supporting staff and students to have good mental health practice,” Ms Collins Bye said.
“Then I am an occupational therapist for the other three days. So I go between the classrooms and help tweak little things to make sure that everyone's engaging and participating as best as they can”.
Ms Collins Bye said the best part of working at the school was the sense of community.
“It's just a very welcoming place and everyone's always trying their best.”
Such positive sentiments are echoed by Elsie Oliver who works as an education support staff member.
Her mother is the school’s assistant principal.
Ms Oliver said her love for helping others was what inspired her to work at the specialist school.
“I love helping people and working with them, guiding them throughout their school years, and it's a very rewarding job,” she said.
Ms Oliver plans to make working at a specialist school her long-term career goal and hopes to learn as much as possible in her first year of work.
“I hope that I can learn more about special needs. So that it'll help me with my long-term career.”
As for what she would say to people thinking about working at a specialist school, Ms Oliver says go for it.
“It's so rewarding. Every day is different. And even though it's extremely challenging at times, it's the most rewarding job.”

Cobram & District Specialist School assistant principal Lisa Oliver is ecstatic about the new staff members.
“They all bring different skills, and they bring knowledge on special needs. And so we are able to then use that in our classrooms.”
Mrs Oliver hopes the new staff members have a bright future at the school and that the school community welcomes them with open arms.
“We are so excited to have them at our school. And we're just looking forward to developing a great relationship with them and for them to have a great relationship with their students”.
