President Daryl Whateley said as a result of a smaller membership base, the number of service projects the club can deliver has been reduced.
But he said “members are doing what they can and are doing it well”.
One of its most well known projects is the monthly Deniliquin Lions Community Market, which is held in the Deniliquin Waring Garden on the fourth Saturday of each month.
Where the market falls on a holiday weekend - like Easter or Christmas - the market may be moved to the public holiday Monday.
Stallholders come from across the region, and the Lions are there with their trusty barbecue and catering van to feed the crowds.
“Our small membership is still active, and members are excelling themselves with the efforts they are putting in,” he said.
“Deniliquin Lions are still involved with selling Lions Christmas cakes and mints, its annual Christmas raffle, the monthly market, and catering for Edward River Council’s outdoor staff breakfast monthly.
“There are also smaller jobs like cooking for Yarkuwa and the Deniliquin Local Aboriginal Lands Council, providing tables for the Navorina Garage Sale and participation in the annual Clean Up Australia Day.
“We are also still involved with Lions Recycle for Sight and this year we finalised a couple of small local projects in batteries and bicycles that we had collected over the years.”
Mr Whateley said the Lions also assist other local groups with their storage requirements at the former Apex shed, including the Deniliquilters & Friends and Edward River Concert Band.
In the past 12 months, Deniliquin Lions have also provided donations to all the district schools for their presentation nights, donated to the Lions Cyclone Alfred Appeal as well as Lions, District and National projects, and supported the Deniliquin St Vincent de Paul in their Christmas hamper appeal.“
