Junior Shepparton Gators clinch win at Echuca tournament

It was a superb weekend for the Greater Shepparton Basketball Association at the recent Echuca Junior Basketball Tournament, with the Gators tasting success.

The GSBA under-16 boy's division one outfit claimed the title, defeating Wodonga Wolves in a stunning shooting display in the final.

The junior Gators line-up produced a 54-35 win against the Wolves, with teenager Boston Dowling (11 points) nailing three baskets from downtown in an MVP-winning performance.

Dowling's teammates Oscar Ryan and Jordan Munro reached double figures in the final, with the duo scoring 10 points each to be strong supporters.

The Dylan Wayman-coached outfit kicked off the impressive weekend with a 43-15 win against Echuca, which kickstarted an unbeaten weekend, capping off what was an enjoyable tournament for the junior Gators.

Unfortunately, the under-16 boy's division two squad fell to Rochester in the grand final by 20 points, but the side clinched each win in pool B in what was a terrific effort.

In the girl's under-16 division two competition, Shepparton had an up and down weekend, with the group finishing 2-2 from the event.

The side lost the consolation final to Wodongo Wolves, 35-25, however the youngsters had a superb 48-3 win against Benalla Breakers, with Janaya Pettie and Abby Commadeur each racking up 10 points each in the win.

It was a tough weekend for the Gators' girl's under-14 squad, with the side going through without a win, but played with plenty of heart.

Shepparton's under-12 boy's division one outfit battled hard but went through without a win as well.

The under-12 Gators came agonisingly close of a win twice, going down 16-13 to Mansfield and 22-26 to the Wolves.
