It is a story of courage, survival and strength. Through her books, her public speaking, and her work in media, she continues to break down stigma and encourage others to reach out and keep going. Her story reminds us that resilience lives in all of us.
Tickets for the two local Jelena Dokic events during Mental Health Month will go on sale today at midday.
They will be hosted by Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group (Deni MHAG), with the support of their sponsors.
A special women-only keynote dinner on Friday, October 17, will centre around women’s mental health, resilience, and the strength found in speaking up and seeking help. This limited seating event is open to ages 18 years and older and tickets are $120 per person.
“The interest in this event has been significant from the time we announced it and setting a release time for tickets and publishing it well in advance is just really to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to secure tickets for this keynote dinner event,” Deni MHAG spokesperson Lourene Liebenberg said.
Tables of eight and 10 seats are available, and people can book whole tables or as many seats as they need at a table.
The event will start at 6.30pm, with doors opening at 6pm, giving people time to purchase a drink and some raffle tickets.
“While it is not a formal dress event, it is a great opportunity for our women to get dressed up, feel good about themselves and spend an uplifting night with friends and the community,” Mrs Liebenberg said.
Deni MHAG will also be launching the ‘Brave Enough’ campaign, and everyone will receive a bag with some resources and pathways to help.
A second Community Wellbeing event will be held on Saturday, October 18 from 11am to 1pm. This theatre seating event is open to everyone aged 16 years and older and cost $50, with concession tickets available for $25 for youth and young adults (aged 16 to 25 years).
Tickets are available on Trybooking and the information is included in the advertisement in today’s Pastoral Times. The events are also on the Deni MHAG Facebook page, pinned to the top of the page, with booking links.
Deni MHAG will hold fundraising raffles at both. If anyone would like to donate vouchers or raffle prizes to support the work of Deni MHAG as a local volunteer-run mental health organisation, contact Mrs Liebenberg via text or phone call on 0428 281 060 or email lourene@bigpond.com.
