Almost a year since Mrs Renwick’s passing, the group hosted a memorial tree planting.
Helping to establish the orange tree were Mrs Renwick’s husband Lindsay and their daughter Georgia Jacobs.
Other family members in attendance were Georgia’s husband Digby Jacobs, Mrs Renwick’s granddaughter Mathilda and her daughter Daisy.
Mrs Renwick came up with the idea of forming the Deniliquin Community Garden in 2004 and then worked with the local council to get it going by 2006.
“The whole place is looking so nice and healthy, and was a real dream of Jan’s,” Mr Renwick said.
“It’s a nice and friendly place to be, and I did notice there are new families to town who are utilising it now too.
“With the price of food now, it would be nice to see more people taking advantage of the gardens and share their growing passions.
“I thank the Deniliquin Community Garden for their tribute to Jan, and for keeping the gardens up to a standard she would be proud of.”
Deniliquin Community Garden secretary Ben Harris said the group was happy with the turnout, and the success of the day.
“It was so fitting to have Lindsay and other family members there, and it was such a nice atmosphere,” Mr Harris said.
“We were also pleased to have Edward River Mayor Ashley Hall in attendance and speak, along with our president Andrew Smith.”
The Deniliquin Community Garden is located at the corner of Macauley and Whitelock Sts, Deniliquin. If the gates are open, you’re welcome to enter and learn more.
