All north-bound lanes of the Hume Fwy are closed at Donnybrook Rd due to a collision that has resulted in a jack-knifed truck and power pole being brought down.
North-bound drivers leaving Melbourne are being diverted onto Donnybrook Rd to then use Merriang Rd and Wallan-Whittlesea Rd back to the freeway.
Reports around 4.30pm on Tuesday, January 2, said there was a 7km queue of extremely slow-moving traffic from the Amaroo Rd exit.
The Department of Transport and Planning has advised motorists to consider exiting the Hume Fwy earlier at Craigieburn Rd East and taking Epping Rd.
For Melbourne-bound traffic, delays start at Beveridge.
The department said the closure is under the control of Victoria Police and would only re-open when repairs are made and it was safe to do so.
