The event, aptly named Flying a Kite for World Peace Day, brought together Greater Shepparton residents from various ethnic backgrounds to make, decorate and fly kites.
The kites were made using traditional methods from around the world.
Up to 150 people attended the event.
World Peace Day is normally held on September 21; however, organisers decided to host the event on the closest Sunday to ensure the maximum number of people could attend.
Liz Arcus, who founded the Picnic 4 Peace group, hailed the event a great success and noted that attendees ranged from young children to seniors.
People originally from Afghanistan, Nepal, India and Pakistan were among the participants.

Picnic 4 Peace celebrates World Peace Day every year with some sort of event.
The organisation was founded in 2015 after an influx of migrants to Greater Shepparton led to a desire among many of them to connect with each other.
The organisation bills itself as a group of people with the shared desire to see world peace. The group gathers monthly for picnics and other events.
Ms Arcus is optimistic the organisation will host many more successful events.
“My hope is that it continues, and we can continue to have picnics and celebrate, and make new friendships together,” she said.
