The program aims to protect the region’s heritage through maintenance, preservation, rebuilding and restoration.
In 2023-24, more than $39,000 was awarded to heritage conservation projects across the municipality.
These funds were used for various works, including restoring verandahs, chimneys, painting, and repairing roofs and gutters.
Mayor Shane Sali stated that preserving Shepparton’s history is a top priority for Council, and the Heritage Grants Program is a key way to support this.
“Supporting the community in ensuring good conservation practice across Greater Shepparton through the Heritage Conservation Grants is important, and I encourage anyone who believes they have projects that fit the criteria to consider applying,” he said.
Grants of up to $15,000 are available on a matching basis, which can include either financial or in-kind contributions.
Individuals, community groups, or organisations that own or manage properties within the Heritage Overlay are eligible to apply.
Eligible projects will help repair or conserve heritage structures or support documentation like specialist assessments or conservation plans.
Projects must be undertaken and completed between October 2024 and May 2025.
Full eligibility requirements are outlined in the Heritage Grants Guidelines 2019, available on the council website.
Grant applications can be lodged with the Council from today, Monday, July 15, until 5pm on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Applicants are encouraged to engage with Council’s free Heritage Advisory Service to discuss the proposed works.
