It was a tooth and nail affair in the intra-club derby with sister combo Hope and D’Arcy Curtis-McDonald combining successfully for the Hornets in the doubles, with both winning their respective singles rubbers to drag their side over the line 3-42 to 5-48.
Rich River Rebels found some form in their tie against Shepparton Bulls after a shaky start to win five consecutive rubbers to seal the deal.
Isabella Crossman got the ball rolling for her side, thumping Judy Buzza in her singles rubber and flourishing in the doubles for the Rebels to steer them home comfortably.
Tatura Cockroaches showed no signs of slowing down as they dismantled Shepparton Vipers 2-46 to 6-55 away from home, cementing a 34-point lead heading towards the final round of the competition.
Cockroaches ace Bruce Ferguson showed his dominance on the court with the most convincing rubber of the day, breezing past Sam McKenzie-Harg 8-2.
Captain David Starling is confident ahead of next week’s clash with the Lakers.
‘‘I think we beat them last time we played, but of course it will depend on who they have. Either way it will be good to to catch up and play a good game of tennis,’’ Starling said.
The top-of-the-table clash in the GM2 open division proved to be a rout, with Echuca annihilating Mooroopna Jets 1-33 to 11-77 to stay in top spot.
Jets hometown counterparts Mooroopna Hurricanes did not fare much better, with Shepparton Pelicans shaking off a loss in their first rubber to win the next 10, keeping the Hurricanes at the foot of the ladder.
