Landcare facilitator Alana Mountain said Landcare Week was held between August 4 and 10.
“The theme was that Landcare is for everyone,” she said.
“We decided to coincide the official opening of our community hub space with Landcare Week.
There was some incredibly creative entries in Gecko Clan Landcare’s bake-off.
“We put on a cake bake-off because at any Landcare event you go to, there’s always cake, and we just thought it would be a bit of fun and would bring people together.
“And we had a really nice time.”
Ms Mountain said the hub was officially opened by Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn.
“Which was really nice,” she said.
“And we had lots of different members attend, and we decided to open up the space for people to come in, enjoy and partake in the bake-off.”
There were eight, very creative, entries in the bake-off.

“It was pretty amazing to see some of the efforts with things like handmade little possums in their boxes and a beautiful pollinator’s cake with lots of different native plants in the centre,” Ms Mountain said.
All the cakes were judged by members of three different Landcare groups.
“We had Pam Maple, Pam Robinson and Kay Righetti do that,” Ms Mountain said.
Ms Mountain said it was difficult to determine a winner.

“But once the winner was decided, everyone could enjoy the cakes,” she said.
“I didn’t get through them all personally, but we divided them up and most were taken home for people to enjoy.”
Ms Mountain said Gecko Clan Landcare Network was always seeking new members.
“If anyone is interested, pop in and visit us (at 72 Bridge St East, Benalla),” she said.
“Talk to us about where you live, what you’re interested in, and then we can connect you with your local group.”
