The service allows people to report concerns relating to animal management, roads and buildings by calling (03) 5450 9333.
Calls made outside of regular business hours will be directed to after-hours staff, with callers able to select from three options to connect with the appropriate service.
Gannawarra Shire Council chief executive officer Geoff Rollinson said the new system made it easier for the community to report issues.
“Thanks to the dedication of our staff, council successfully introduced its new after-hours messaging service during the Easter long weekend, which enabled easier reporting of issues relating to animal management or damage to council’s assets,” he said.
Mr Rollinson said the updated system replaced a more complicated process.
“As part of council’s previous arrangements, people wanting to report an issue usually had to note our after-hours mobile phone number, then hang up and call a secondary line.
“These new arrangements have made it easier for residents to report issues and for our staff to act on these concerns.”
The after-hours service complements other ways residents can contact council, including online requests, customer service centres in Cohuna and Kerang, email and live chat during business hours.
Residents are reminded that emergencies or issues posing immediate danger should be reported to 000.
