With the preceding junior event on March 18 and 19 an appetiser for what was to come, spectators were treated to the main course as senior brigades from far and wide gathered to test themselves against the best in the state.
Kicking off the event was a storied torchlight procession that lit up Shepparton literally and figuratively on Saturday, setting the tone for the action that followed.
After two rigorous days of wet and dry work, Napoleons-Enfield Brigade took out the rural juniors aggregate and Hurstbridge was anointed king of the rural seniors division.
In the urban competition, Melton added a seniors gong to its juniors crown won the weekend prior.
From the local brigades, Tatura impressed with a first placing in the dry aggregate urban event, while member Matthew Rennie topped the podium in the hydrant race.
Family fun: Kate Wills, Piper Ryan, Claire Longstaff and Daniel Wills.

Euroa and Echuca also placed well in various events.
Overjoyed with how the championships played out, CFA chief officer Jason Heffernan congratulated all involved in another stellar edition of the event.
“The State Championships events, including the torchlight procession, are an integral part of showcasing CFA to the community,” he said.
“The State Championships are a big part of CFA’s volunteer culture, and promote the important values of teamwork and respect, as well as engaging our members in some friendly competition with like-minded competitors.”
