Hundreds of students gathered on the senior oval at Kyabram P-12 College for their annual Diversity and Inclusion Day on Wednesday, May 14.
The event featured a diverse range of activities, including jumping castles, balloon artists and an animal farm named Noah's Arc by the school chaplain.
Community organisations like headspace Echuca and Kyabram District Health Service also set up informative stalls.
Staff member Hilary Grigg described the day as a celebration of our community, embracing our differences and finding common ground.
“We just want to celebrate the importance of inclusiveness and the importance of celebrating how we are all really different, but also have so much in common with each other,” Ms Grigg said.
“It’s been great to see all the students come together, to play, to create, to interact and just have a really good time.”
Ms Grigg highlighted that while the event had expanded significantly since its inception five years ago, its core values of inclusion and community unity have remained constant.
Mitch Coombs said teachers had received a lot of good feedback from parents, community members and students.
“This (event) benefits not just the school, but the whole community and shows that we are inclusive and we respect and celebrate diversity,” he said.
“It’s always good – any chance we can have to connect with the community is good.”
