A team of almost 20 participants will join Connor’s Erg, a rowing event held in gyms around the world.
Connor’s Erg started in the US, with major universities, such as Wisconsin, Colgate, MIT, and UCLA, competing for the title of Fastest 100km, working in teams of five or six in the relay format.
Over the past few years, Connor’s Erg has grown, particularly in Australia.
In 2022, the Euroa Gym team members rowed 300km, and raised $45,530; then, in 2023, they rowed 1000km for the day, raising $58,602.
This year, the team members are aiming to raise $100,000 as they row 2000km for the day.
As of Wednesday, February 14, the team had raised just over $37,400.
Funds raised from the event will go to the Robert Connor Dawes Foundation, which facilitates funding for brain research, care and development.
The foundation was created in June 2013 in memory of Robert ‘Connor’ Dawes, who died of brain cancer.
The funds will be used by the foundation for a number of research and treatment investments, including:
- Brain Cancer Vaccine Project: Using the mRNA vaccine technology proven effective in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, along with personal immune profiling technology.
- ANZCHOG clinical trials program: Funding to support and grow the Australia/New Zealand Children’s Haematology and Oncology Group clinical trials program.
- Jenkins Lab immunotherapy: Ongoing support to Misty Jenkins and her team at WEHI, supporting their CAR-T cell therapy work.
