The season started off with more rain than usual in June and July, but with August drier than normal.
Winter started wet, with 54.4mm of rainfall in June, with rain recorded on 17 separate days.
This is a big increase on the historical average 12.5 rainy days as recorded by the Bureau of Meteorology over the past 29 years.
The total rainfall was also 13mm more than the historical mean for June.
The wettest day of the month was June 8, when 11.6mm of rain was recorded.
July saw even more rain for Shepparton, with 64.6mm falling.
This well exceeds the historical mean of 40.2mm.
The July rainfall this year came on 18 different days, with the most — 16.8mm — falling on July 26.
August, however, only saw 26.8mm of rain — down from the historical mean of 44.1mm.
The rain fell on 11 separate days, with the highest daily rainfall only 6.4mm on August 27.
The daytime temperatures in June were slightly cooler than the historical average, with July and August both seeing days that were slightly warmer than usual.
June had an average daytime temperature of 13.6°C, July saw 14°C, and August’s average was 15.8°C.
The warmest day for winter came on August 21 when the mercury crept up to 19.9°C.
The coldest August day saw 11.4°C recorded on August 17, while the coldest winter day saw the temperature reach only a chilly 9.2°C on July 8.
The night-time temperatures in June and August were slightly colder than usual, while the July nights were a little warmer than the historical mean.
June saw an average night-time minimum temperature of 3.8°C, July was 4°C, and August saw an average of 2.7°C.
August recorded six nights under 0°C and another six under 1°C.
The coldest August night saw the mercury drop to -1.7°C on August 19.
June’s coldest night was a chilly -2.3°C, while July’s coldest night saw the temperature drop to -1.4°C.
The warmest winter night came on June 24, with a minimum of 9.9°C recorded, while August’s warmest night was a minimum of 8.8°C and July’s was 9.3°C.
