Club member John Boehm, who co-ordinated the training, said a grant from Benalla Rural City Council allowed the group to attend the two-day course, conducted by The Centre, in Benalla.
“First-aid know-how is essential as members encounter all types of terrain and conditions, exposing walkers to risk,” Mr Boehm said.
“Walks are often in remote locations, and if an incident occurs that causes injury, giving first aid can make a huge difference to eventual outcomes.”
The theory and practical training were comprehensive.
Importantly, CPR training and practice, for adults, children and babies, provided confidence in learning the finer points of effective resuscitation.
“Members will receive a level two certificate,” Mr Boehm said.
“A benefit for the community is that the presence of first-aid qualified persons also supports the first-aid resources available in the Benalla region.
“The certificates will be valid for three years, and CPR (certification) for one year.”
