Cinema Cosplay is the first event on Greater Shepparton’s Youth Fest calendar during the month-long event throughout September.
Youth Fest celebrates all things young people, showcasing achievements and promoting interactive activities that they can join in.
Cinema Cosplay is one of those activities.
Led by Shepparton’s Salvation Army North East Youth Services, Village Cinemas acts as both a partner and the venue for the event.
“This event is about combining cosplay, or costume play, in this case a Marvel theme, combined with a Marvel movie: The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” Salvation Army NEYS youth participation worker Jim Gow said.
“There will be prizes for best dressed in Marvel theme, as well as a photographer to capture your costume on a Fantastic Four backdrop.”
The youth event, which targets people aged between 12 and 25, encourages participants to cosplay, even if their costumes are not Marvel-inspired.
“We are trying to bring something new for everyone to experience in the area of creativity and promoting pop culture,” Mr Gow said.
“This event was the idea of young people for other young people.”
Mr Gow said the service was often told there was nothing to do in the area for young people.
“We are constantly looking to change that, especially when it comes to putting on new and dynamic events that we haven’t tried before,” he said.
Cinema Cosplay is at Village Cinemas on September 6, from 7pm for an 8.30pm movie time and a 10.30pm finish.
The movie is rated PG and the drug-, alcohol- and smoke/vape-free family-friendly event is fully supervised.
Tickets are $5 each (including the movie) and must be pre-purchased at TryBooking.
