Echuca Primary School Kindergarten students and guests came together on Tuesday afternoon for an official opening ceremony for the kindergarten.

The kindergarten, located at the far end of the Echuca Primary School oval, has been operational since February, however the ceremony was a formal opportunity to thank all those involved.

The ceremony began with a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony undertaken by Uncle Rick Ronan, before Parliamentary Secretary for Children Nathan Lambert shared some words.

Mr Lambert thanked everyone who was involved for their hard work and welcomed any feedback.

“I know a lot of people go above and beyond to make sure you get a really good facility and a great service, so it’s important today to thank everyone involved (and) to be here on behalf of the Victorian Government to do so,” he said.

“The other reason we have these openings is it’s always a chance for us to get some feedback on the project specifically, but also on the broader work that we are trying to do as a government with the Best Start, Best Life reforms.”

The kindergarten features two large classrooms that will be able to host a maximum of 66 students.

The students can also enjoy a spacious outdoor area with a verandah and a play area.

It also has all the necessities, such as toilets, a laundry, kitchen and a library space.

Through a $100,000 grant from the Victorian Government, the facility has been fitted out with new furniture and resources.

Shine Bright EYM, who manages 13 kindergartens throughout Campaspe Shire, was the chosen service provider for the new kinder.

Shine Bright CEO Richie Evans said it was great to see the kindergarten develop over time.

“I go right back to, I think it was October... we actually saw this building (arrive) on the back of the truck, I think it was six pieces,” he said.

“To see it go from that, to where it is today — it's a remarkable transformation.

“To the families and the children, you are what makes this building not just a building on the back of a truck. Thanks for being part of it and making it feel like a kinder.”

Although the kindergarten is set to have a capacity of more than 60 students, there is a possibility for more enrolments if sessions are spread out during the week.

Campaspe Shire Council is managing enrolments through the Central Registration and Enrolment Scheme.
