The two-day extravaganza had representatives of three metropolitan divisions battle players from the La Trobe Valley and the local North-East region, in a weekend packed full of action.
Sunday’s men’s doubles had local teams of Nardo Di Petta and Pat D’Aulerio and Fred De Cicco and Alex Minicozzi both fall to metropolitan teams, but local-turned-metropolitan representative Tony Borrelli teamed with Deeno Mikolich to claim the crown.
The women’s doubles was also dominated by metro teams with Connie Dentesano and Emilia Porta winning from Vanessa and Angela Allegretto, with local teams of Rosa Russo and Angiolina Borrelli and Maria Greco and Lucy Portia having a red-hot crack.
Saturday’s men’s singles action had local hopes Di Petta and De Cicco make fairytale runs to the semi-finals, but were ousted by eventual champion Angelo Parisi and runner-up Rocky Pallidino.
Women’s action had North-East representatives and past state and national champions Russo and Maria Greco square off in the final.
Russo jumped the better of the two and had all the answers to lead 8-0, but Greco fought back to have the scores locked at 8-8 at the one-hour time limit.
A supplementary end was required, but Russo produced some clutch bocce to grab the title.
Full credit must go to the Tatura Bocce Club that catered for the weekend, for the delicious meals that were served, and to president Mario Borrelli and the Tatura Sports Committee for the preparation of the courts.
Next year the games will be staged in the La Trobe Valley.
