There were around 30 family and friends in attendance to support Patrick as his fundraising journey came to an end.
He recently committed to parting with his long red hair to support Deniliquin CanAssist and the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation.
To mark the day of his monster haircut, Deniliquin Rovers held a barbecue with all the profits from the food and drink sales also donated to local CanAssist, Patrick’s fundraising partner for the journey.
Everyone gathered around in the clubrooms to watch the moment mum Melissa Westcott started the chop.
Melissa was eager to get started. “I cut off six beautiful, red piggy tails and then all the boys had a go at shaving the rest,” she said.
“Once we got it to a nice normal looking number two buzz cut, I thought we were done but the boys had other ideas.”
Tom Merrylees, Patrick’s mate, took the clippers and constructed a trendy new “Air Bender” cut.
Despite admitting she was yet to adjust to the new style, Melissa was so proud of Patrick’s efforts.
“It was a great day and everyone enjoyed it,” she said.
“A massive thank you to Deni Rovers, John and Alex Glowrey and Chris Maher for manning the barbecue and opening the bar,” she said.
The total amount raised over Patrick’s journey was a very impressive $6285.
The hair salvaged will be donated to the Australian Alopecia Areata Foundation, which will be made into wigs for children living with alopecia.
All funds raised by or donated to Deniliquin CanAssist help support local families with the costs associated with receiving cancer treatment out of town.
