State Member for Northern Victoria Wendy Lovell said families in the Shepparton electorate would be “deeply disappointed” with the budget, which has “run up massive debt for the state”.
“Jacinta Allan and Labor billed this budget as being ‘Focused on What Matters Most’, so it’s clear from the budget commitments that the Shepparton electorate doesn’t matter to Labor,” Ms Lovell said.
She said crucial regional projects including the Shepparton Bypass and Shepparton Sports and Events Centre, among others, had missed out.
State Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe said hardworking Victorians were paying the price with “reduced services and investment deserts across regional Victoria”.

“This budget is a shining example that the Allan Labor Government is a government that borrows more, spends more and achieves less,” she said.
“Our community shouldn’t have to pay the price of Labor’s financial mismanagement and reckless city spending.”
Ms O’Keeffe said one of the projects that faced uncertainty was a “much-needed” local bus review, which was a “small ask”.
Roads and road safety were also a big concern for Ms O’Keeffe, who said Shepparton and Mooroopna “desperately need a second river crossing”, to accommodate increasing traffic of the region.
State Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad said the budget was “city-centric”, and “punishes the regions to pay for the Labor Government’s cost blowouts and mismanagement”.
Four Greater Shepparton-specific projects were allocated funding in the budget, including $453,000 for St George’s Rd Primary School, and a share of $6 million for Shepparton Foodshare.
Both Ms Lovell and Ms O’Keeffe said they were pleased to see Shepparton Foodshare be provided with increased support, and improved funding for food relief in the budget.
