Artist Louan Walker, known by her artistic name Pencil Head, held an exhibition at the Cobram Grand Central Hotel on Saturday, April 4, debuting a series of paintings inspired by Cobram.
Arts for All president June Wood said the recent exhibition went well, with a huge number of people in Cobram over Easter.
“We had lots of good feedback and ‘wowing’ of her paintings,” she said.
Ms Wood said they decided to purchase and donate Pencil Head's painting, A Few Cockatoos, to the library so that it could be enjoyed by the community.
“That painting was a bit of a standout,” she said.
“It’s so beautiful with the colours and she's got such an eye for detail, it’s just amazing.”
Cobram library assistant Jackie Moffitt said it was “quite exciting” to have the painting donated and the opportunity to display it in the library.
“I think it's nice to have an artist's work on display, we are also an information centre... so when tourists come in they will see a local artist,” she said.
The library is also thinking about dedicating a wall to displaying local art.
“I think it would be great to highlight the talents and the artistic abilities of locals, as well as supporting them,” she said.
Ms Moffitt said in terms of the painting, her eyes were drawn to the use of the colour yellow.
“Yellow is a symbol of happiness, and I find that the library is a happy place,” she said.
“The other nice thing about the artwork is the cockatoos are a symbol of our area.”
Ms Moffitt said the library was “grateful” to Arts for All and the “wonderful work” they do in the local area.
