Going to the dentist is not just a nightmare for kids, but also for the parents who have to fork out big money.
A new program, Smile Squad is making this a non-issue.
Parents can register their child to have a check-up, follow-up care, X-rays, teeth cleaning, application of fluoride, dental sealants, fillings and root canals — all for free.
The program is delivered by mobile teams of oral health clinicians who travel anywhere in the state.
Families can save up to $400 by registering their child in the program, and ensuring all children have their oral health up to standard.
Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas said this was one of the ways the government was working to take a financial load off parents.
“Good dental health is part of good health overall — that’s why we are encouraging parents to make sure they have signed their new consent form so when Smile Squad comes to their kids’ school they can use this free service.”
