Brandon's journey began with childhood inspiration.
“Similar to the Seymour expo, I had seen it done when I was a very young kid and I was inspired by it,” he said.
“But it wasn't until probably 10 years after that that I randomly decided to give it a go at home.”
The artist has achieved significant international recognition, winning the US Open International Carving Competition in 2022 and receiving the Carvers Choice Award.
“I'll head over to the United States and Canada for the international competitions this year,” Brandon said.
“It's a great opportunity to really get creative, try new things and carve alongside some of the world’s best carvers.”
His work spans various subjects from wildlife to abstract themes.
“A lot of my work is commission-based, so a lot of the concept is already there and I just have to do my best to translate it into the wood,” he said.
“Otherwise, I am always inspired by what is around me and, particularly, I love doing native animals.”

At the expo, visitors can expect interactive demonstrations.
“People can come right up to the fence and watch me carve and in between, filling up saws and things like that, I love to interact with people,” Brandon said.
“At Seymour, it will be a real mixture of smaller carving and a good amount of native animals.”
Other expo attractions include vintage cars from Seymour and District Car Club, working dog demonstrations by Beloka Kelpies, camel rides, and traditional children's carnival rides.
The Seymour Alternative Farming Expo runs from April 17 to 19 at Kings Park Seymour.
