Locals with a passion for their community are being encouraged to stand for local government this September.
All NSW councils will hold councillor elections on September 14.
Councillors provide leadership and establish policy and strategic direction for their respective councils.
They are also the conduit between the community and the council.
Berrigan Shire Council is governed by eight elected members of council, and Murrumbidgee has nine elected councillors.
Mayors and deputy mayors are selected by an internal election of councillors.
Nominations for the councillor elections open on August 5 and close on August 14.
Prospective Berrigan Shire Council candidates are invited to a meet and greet and information session at the Barooga Sporties on Wednesday, June 26 from 6pm to 8pm.
Finger food will be provided and RSVPs must be received by June 21 to keelanm@berriganshire.nsw.gov.au or by calling Keelan McDonald on 5888 5100.
More details about standing for local government can be found on the NSW Electoral Commission website (follow the prompts under the ‘election’ tab) and a candidate information webinar can be viewed at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNL3k84-7Nk.
