Plans for an official ceremony to mark the 100th anniversary of the Yarrawonga Mulwala traffic bridge continue to progress well.
Bridge Centenary Committee Chair John Lawless and committee member Robert Purtle OAM recently met with Member for Ovens Valley Tim McCurdy to update him on the celebration plans.
Mr Lawless said a solid date for the celebration had not been set until the committee received confirmation of key invitees, who will be asked to unveil plaques on the Victorian and NSW sides of the bridge.
“It is frustrating, but we want the occasion to be as special as we can,” Mr Lawless said.
“It will be either a date in mid-October or mid-December.
“We are anticipating a four-hour celebration. After the unveiling of the plaques, we will move to the Yarrawonga Foreshore for a civic reception and a chance for the public to meet with the dignitaries that we have invited to the occasion.”
Mr Lawless said the committee hoped that both the Yarrawonga and Mulwala communities would get behind the celebrations.
“Our bridge has served our towns well over the last 100 years, and that should be celebrated,” Mr Lawless said.
