Their quintessential Australian caw rings out at dawn and dusk across the river, as thousands of corellas take flight around the lake, and Shepparton Art Museum.

However, the birds have again been damaging the exterior of the museum, leading Greater Shepparton City Council to take steps to limit the damage.

Several devices to deter corellas from the building were installed this week, and the council’s strategic assets manager Nick Marple said they would hopefully protect the building.

“We have been trialling different equipment to deter the birds at SAM,” he said.

“This seems to be a seasonal issue and has become prominent again.“

Wind-powered reflective spinning cones called reflect-a-bird will be installed, while kites known as terror eyes and sonic bird deterrents to protect balcony guards were also put in place.

Mr Marple said more equipment was on the way.

“We have also ordered Eagle Eye solar units (solar powered spinning mirror prisms), these will be installed when they arrive,” he said.
