The Harriman Point boat ramp at Waranga Basin will be turned into a dual lane launch point in a $400,000 upgrade.
Waranga Basin is one of Victoria’s largest and most popular inland waterways.
The upgrade will be overseen by Goulburn-Murray Water and funded through the Victorian Government's $47.2 million Better Boating Victoria fund.
“These upgrades to the Harriman Point ramp will mean more people can get out on the water both here and at Waranga’s two other ramps and enjoy the great boating on offer,” Fishing and Boating Minister Melissa Horne said.
“Waranga is an important facility for skiers, powerboats and fishers so being able to have more people access the water is terrific.”
It is estimated up to 500 boaters enjoy Waranga Basin each day in January.
The funding will see the existing ramp doubled in width to create two lanes, the installation of a compacted gravel car and trailer parking area, turnaround area, improved signage and aids to navigation to improve safety on the water.“Waranga is hugely important to the local community, many of whom are very passionate about boating, so these upgrades will be warmly welcomed,” Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said.
The Victorian Fisheries Authority recently stocked Waranga Basin with more than 50,000 golden perch fingerlings, to help improve fishing.
The works are expected to be completed before the summer boating season.
