Sandie Docker’s The Lyrebird Lake Ladies Choir is a spellbinding novel about the power of discovering your own voice.
And the best-selling author of The Wattle Island Book Club will make her to way to the Mooroopna Library this month, backed by a unique live soundtrack.
Arrive early to enjoy a delightful performance by Shepp Sings!, setting the perfect atmosphere for a choir-themed novel.
The Lyrebird Lake Ladies Choir is a profoundly touching tale about the transformative power of finding your voice.
Set between 1973 and present day, Docker expertly interweaves the stories of Eleanor, Maggie and Hannah as they confront issues faced in modern-day Australia.
Addressing homelessness and the lingering pain of historic forced adoption, this novel illuminates these issues and amplifies the voices of those affected.
For years, lost and lonely women discovered a haven in the grand federation house by Lyrebird Lake, and a family in the Lyrebird Lake Ladies Choir, led by sisters Eleanor and Maggie.
When Eleanor enters the choir into the All-Voices Championship, it gives them a chance to reclaim their lost dreams.
At the same time, single mum Hannah arrives in town, homeless after being widowed and hoping for a new start with her son.
With her angelic voice, Hannah could give the choir a winning edge.
But when Eleanor hears her singing a long-forgotten lullaby, she is transported to her past, a traumatic time when two teenage girls were banished from their Irish homeland to a faraway country.
Will Hannah’s arrival mend old wounds, or will the secret she unknowingly carries tear the sisters apart?
Docker grew up in Coffs Harbour and first fell in love with reading when her father introduced her to fantasy books as a teenager.
