Benalla Art Gallery director Eric Nash said while the recognition was nice, the real benefit was in the amount of visitors an article in a national publication could attract to the Rose City.
“We found out about the article when it was published a couple of weeks ago,” Mr Nash said.
“Time Out obviously have a very large readership and they regularly publish articles on the arts and culture, providing advice for travellers across the state and nationally.
“So it’s really pleasing recognition for Benalla Art Gallery to be included, especially alongside some of our larger and really esteemed peers.
“For the city and region it underlines the significant role the gallery plays in terms of providing a really strong point of attraction for people to visit and to stay here.”
That has a knock-on effect that benefits, not only Benalla, but also smaller townships nearby.
When people travel to visit the gallery they might grab lunch at one of the Rose City’s cafes or pubs.
Perhaps they will take a drive on the north-east art trail or visit the racing club, or Winton Motor Raceway.
Many will head for local wineries.
However, the benefits of having a world-class gallery are not only seen by visitors.
The good news for the people of Benalla is they do not need to travel any distance at all to view some amazing exhibitions.
