Riders raise over $100k
Echuca-Moama district charity Horizon Committee has donated $50,000 to Echuca Regional Health following its Great Postie Bike Adventure event.

The inaugural event saw 40 riders travel to Tasmania for a 1300km round trip over five days.
Participants came from across Australia, including Victoria, NSW, Tasmania, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia.
This year, the event raised more than $100,000, which was split and donated to the ERH and the Hobart WP Holman Clinic Trust.
Plans for next year’s three-day Great Postie Bike Adventure are well under way, with the event to be held in Warragul and the Gippsland region.

Duo save man from Cobram fire

When best mates Jock McAuliffe and Matt Eddy went out for a nighttime drive last Friday, April 25, little did they expect to find themselves at the centre of a particularly destructive fire incident in Cobram.
They came across and apartment at the eastern end of Hay Ave wreathed in smoke and flames.
They were investigating further when they heard a window smash.
“And as we got there, there was a man halfway out the window, passed out, half his body in the house, half his body outside of the house,” Jock said.
As smoke poured from the open window, and with only a phone torch to illuminate the area, Jock hauled the man to safety, taking care not to let the glass from the smashed window cut his chest.
It was just in time, too: just 30 seconds later, the entire room went up in flames.
Ambulance Victoria later confirmed a man in his 50s had been taken to Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton in a stable condition.
Child hit by train
A 10 year-old was flown to a Melbourne hospital after an incident with a train at a train station on Tuesday, April 29.
Police said it was believed the girl was waiting for a train to pass at Avenel train station near Plummer St just after 3.30pm when the front tyre of her bicycle was clipped by the train, causing her to hit the side of the train.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the girl was treated by paramedics at the scene for upper body injuries.
She was then flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
