Coordinated by the Deniliquin Local Health Advisory Committee, the campaign includes nine talks featuring guest speakers throughout the year.
Each talk is based on the main health topics featured as part of a health banner campaign.
The 12 banners urge residents to take health into their hands through a strong call to action.
With a focus on chronic disease, it aims to reduce risk or improve health.
The diabetes talk is the third in the series, and will feature Deniliquin Community Health diabetes educator Jonelle Allitt.
It will be held Wednesday, May 1 from 10.30am to noon at the Deniliquin Community Health Centre in Macauley St (opposite Navorina).
The talk itself will go for about 30 minutes, with lots of opportunities to ask questions and then time for a cuppa and a chat.
Everyone is welcome to attend.
Jonelle will speak about what diabetes is, and the different types of diabetes.
She will also explain how to recognise signs of diabetes, and simple strategies to reduce your risk of developing diabetes.
Treatments available will also be discussed.
The latest research suggests there are 1.3 million Australians living with diabetes (1 in 20 of the population), and 11 per cent of total hospitalisations in Australia in 2021 were associated with diabetes.
Good management of diabetes is essential to prevent complications.
In Australia the incidence of diabetes increases with increasing age, and is more common overall in males.
Jonelle will also discuss the importance of regular monitoring and communication with your health care team.
