The budding chef first competed at regionals in April this year in the junior carrot and sultana muffins section after a win at the Deniliquin Show in March.
At the Victorian Ag Shows 2025 state convention in Bendigo this month, 11 year-old Alice was up against others who may have had a little more experience in the kitchen than herself.
“The junior section goes all the way up to 16 year-olds, and most of the other competitors were in that older age group,” Alice’s mother Fiona Rose-Petersen said.
“While Alice did not get a placing at state, we were still very proud she made it to the state finals.
“She represented the Deniliquin Show Society well, and at the Northern Region Finals in Swan Hill on April.”
Alice comes from a long line of family members who have long supported the Deniliquin Show and other regional agricultural shows.
She is the great-granddaughter of Frances Langman, whose name is attached to a Deniliquin Show memorial trophy for the most outstanding exhibit in junior floral art.
Alice and her sister Lily have both won the trophy twice since 2019, and this year it went to their niece, Mia Rose.
Other family members to have won the trophy include Alice and Lily’s sister Jess Rose (1999 and 2000) and brother Tom Rose (2002), and their cousin Meg Erickson (2008).
Alice’s grandmother Lyn Rose is also an active member of the Deniliquin Show Society’s pavilion committee.
The award-winning muffins bake was only one of Alice’s prizes from the Deniliquin Show this year.
She was one of only two multiple trophy winners.
She claimed both the Robyn Mott Memorial Trophy for junior/teenage cookery and the Joan Allitt Memorial Trophy Encouragement Award for junior/teenage cookery.
Alice also claimed the 2025 Metcalfe Family Trophy, which is decided using an aggregate score from all junior show pavilion sections.
Alice also gets involved in other parts of the show, taking out runner-up in Miss Pre-Teen (10-12 years) in the Junior Judging this year.
While Alice did not progress past the state finals for her cooking this year, she said there may be other chances.
She’ll start planning her 2026 Deniliquin Show entries as soon as the schedule is released later this year.
