The Strikers powered past SYC in their round 12 clash, recording a comfortable 10-1 win, extending the gap between first and second to six points.
It was a glorious first half for the Strikers — hitting seven past the opposition keeper — with Connor Holland (four) and Xavier McBain (four) leading the way.
Nathan Greig and Luke Jorgensen stood tall for SYC, while Craig McDonald scored the goal.
In the A-women competition, Echuca-Moama clinched its second win of the season — defeating SYC 4-0.
Rebecca O’Neill starred for the victors, while Courtney Thompson saluted with three goals.
Molly Willmott and Merryn Coffey battled hard for SYC and were named its best players.
Meanwhile, the Strikers made life difficult for Echuca-Moama in their B-men fixture.
Echuca-Moama was pushed by the bottom-placed outfit — grinding out a 4-2 win — with Adam Thompson, Tom Morphett and Troy Kenny (two goals) standing tall.
Benalla proved too strong for Mooroopna — running out a 5-0 winner — thanks to Evan Dowe, Alan Sutherland (one goal) and Daniel Trevaskis (two).
However, Mooroopna turned the tide in the B-women result, defeating Benalla 8-0.
Joy Parnell scored four times for Mooroopna, while Lyn Berry chipped in with three superb strikes.
Elsewhere, Echuca-Moama finished 2-2 with the Strikers in a pulsating match that leaves the River Rats on 25 points — tied first on the ladder with Mooroopna.
●At junior level, SYC-Strikers-Benalla edged out Mooroopna 2-1 in a thrilling contest between the under-16s sides.
Led by Nathan Greig (one goal) and Jasmyn Dicketts, the combined outfit scored two stunners in the second half to defeat Mooroopna.
Xavier Cornelius and Amie Forster battled hard, while Jack Vaivars scored Mooroopna’s goal.
In the under-14s, the Strikers claimed a tense 2-1 win against Echuca-Moama, while Mooroopna blitzed Goulburn Valley Grammar 5-0 thanks to Tyler Green (four goals).
The weekend result has the Strikers five points clear of Mooroopna in first position, with two rounds remaining in the season.
At under-12 level, Euroa clinched a shock 8-3 win against SYC Blue to jump into fourth position on the ladder.
Joel and Aiden Hamill were the standouts for Euroa, while Liam Caiafa fought hard for Blue.
In other results, Strikers Red claimed a comfortable 5-0 win against rival Strikers Blue, and Mooroopna flew past Echuca-Moama 8-5.
Lastly, Benalla outmuscled SYC Yellow 3-1, with Oliver Gillies (two goals) and Madeline Watson performing well.
There were no games in the under-10s due to a junior clinic, with the youngsters set to return this weekend.
