Echuca Racing Club manager Garry Armstrong runs the rule over the local contenders on Sunday’s Echuca Cup Day card.

Gala Diamond (Race 1, No.4): From the Mick Cornish-Donna Gaskin yard, looking for a better performance second up where beaten 13 lengths at his debut at Kyneton, maybe later.

Mutsuhito (Race 1, No.7): From the Johnstone camp, interesting runner, having come across from the Chris Waller stable. Hasn’t been too far off them at Canterbury and Kembla Grange, one to watch for any market moves.

Mackstar (Race 1, No.8): Trained by Darryl Archard — improved a little from the debut run to his second start at Wangaratta, will need to keep on the improve to be in the finish.

Perricootaprincess (Race 1, No.12): Trained by Rhys Archard. Beaten 13 lengths at her debut at Benalla, the long list of local owners will be cheering if this filly can salute.

Lika Swift (Race 2, No.5): His first two starts were encouraging, since then has looked plain. A better barrier and the services of local apprentice, Rose Hammond may see a better run.

Ha She (Race 2, No.9): Looking for further improvement on her last start at Benalla.

Tijuana Gold (Race 2, No.13): Not too far off them at Bendigo, could be worth and each way bet.

Vandelle (Race 2, No.14): Improving with each start, getting close to a win and it could be on Sunday.

Sturdy Time (Race 2, No.16): Beaten five-lengths at Stawell first up, will be fitter and better for that run, if she gets a start, could finish in the placings.

Pravro (Race 5, No.8): The old local war horse, Pravro goes around. To be ridden by Rose Hammond, the 4kg Claim and a nice draw in barrier four see Pravro as a strong chance in the Perricoota Station Sprint.

Impending Shadow (Race 8, No.10): Drawn reasonably in barrier seven and with the services of jockey Jack Hill, Impending Shadow could finish cup day on a high for the local trainers. Each way at least and will run well.

Good luck to all our local horses and trainers, I’m hoping for a winner or two from our locals.
