JDRF One Walk this weekend

Shepparton is hosting the JDRF One Walk tomorrow to raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes.

Last year more than 100 people took part in the event.

Tomorrow, people are asked to wear blue and complete two laps around Victoria Park Lake.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease where a person’s pancreas loses the ability to produce insulin — a hormone that turns food into energy.

It is not caused by diet or lifestyle.

It requires constant blood-glucose testing through finger pricks and a constant supply of insulin by injection or pump.

About 20,000 people across the country took part in the JDRF One Walk last year and more than $1 million was raised.

The JDRF One Walk starts at 10am.

The walk starts tomorrow at 10am at Victoria Park Lake near the small BBQ area near the All Abilities Playground. For more information, visit walk.jdrf.org.au.
