A son has faced court in Melbourne charged with the murder of his father.

James William Matthews, 30, is accused of killing his father Bill Matthews at a home in Scoresby, in the city's east, on April 7.
Magistrate Kieran Gilligan said Matthews, also from Scoresby, required urgent psychiatric care and was at risk of self-harm in custody.
He said the man, who appeared by videolink from prison a week after he was charged, had conditions including bipolar disorder.
Matthews is due back in court on August 15.
Police have sought until July this year to compile the brief of evidence against Matthews, citing a large amount of police body camera footage to be sorted through.
Officers discovered the body of 78-year-old Mr Matthews inside a home in Nardu Court, Scoresby last Thursday after being called to check on the welfare of two men.
