A woman has been seriously injured when hit by a police car responding to a call for help.
The incident about 2.20am on Friday resulted in the woman being rushed from the scene in South Kempsey to Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital more than 250km away.
A police statement did not detail her injuries but said they were not life-threatening.
The 39-year-old was in a serious but stable condition in hospital.
Senior police are expected to provide further details to media on Friday.
A critical incident team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with that investigation subject to an independent review.
