There were 63 homicides in 2022/23, up from 48 in 2017/18, according to a national report on injuries to women compiled by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare.
The report, released on Thursday morning, found there were 7649 hospitalisations due to attacks on women in 2022/23, with assault by bodily force and blunt objects the leading categories.
Spouses or domestic partners were the reported perpetrators in half the cases, followed by unspecified attackers and other family members.
Other family members were the leading perpetrators in attacks on women aged 65 and older.
The rate of assault hospitalisations for women in very remote areas was 43.1 times higher than those in major cities, the report found.
Assault was the leading cause of injury hospitalisations among First Nations women, with 3661 cases.
"Women experience distinct patterns of injury due to various physiological, social and environmental factors including family, domestic and sexual violence, pregnancy, ageing, and mental health challenges," the institute's spokeswoman Jacqueline Rek said in a statement.
"The monitoring work we undertake helps identify these patterns of injury to improve awareness and inform prevention measures."
A higher proportion of pregnant women were assaulted by their partner, with those patients more likely to be injured on their abdomen, lower back or spine.
"Women are at an increased risk of experiencing family, domestic and sexual violence during pregnancy and if they are already experiencing violence, the severity is likely to increase while pregnant," the report said.
"The increased risk ... during pregnancy is often linked to factors such as dependency and relationship power dynamics, increased stress and social isolation." Â
Injuries to women led to a total of 217,224 hospitalisations, with 5880 deaths in 2022/23.
Accidental falls have been the leading cause of women's injury hospitalisations and death for the past decade.
There were 122,826 hospitalisations after falls in 2022/23 and 3437 deaths, with women most likely to suffer fractures to their hips and lower limbs.
Women's homes were the most common places for falls, followed by aged care facilities, streets and roads.
