Mother charged with murder of 10-year-old daughter

A mother has been charged with murder following the death of a 10-year-old girl in what police have described as one of "the most confronting" scenes.

Police were called to an address at Emerald Lakes in Carrara just after 6pm on Tuesday, after the girl was found unresponsive by her father.

Paramedics attempted to revive her but she was declared dead at the scene.

Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis said authorities conducted an efficient investigation under extremely difficult circumstances, which led to the 46-year-old mother's arrest.

"The scene was incredibly confronting and our attending members, both QPS and paramedics will be receiving the necessary support," he told reporters on Wednesday.

"In my 15-year career as a detective, it's one of the most confronting scenes that I have seen."

The mother was arrested at a nearby street about 10.25pm, Acting Inspector Ellis said.

She was due to appear before Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.
