She's just 21 but now faces 11-and-a-half years behind bars after wildly driving while drug-affected and at speed in a stolen car, hitting and killing a delivery driver and seriously injuring a pedestrian.
After causing carnage in the Melbourne CBD in October last year Laz didn't stop, instead continuing her dangerous driving out of the city and into the western suburbs while police pursued.
Police air wing were already tracking her driving after she failed to stop for an unmarked car, pursuing her after the car was reported stolen in a robbery from Laz's home.
Laz, a learner driver whose permit was suspended for speeding, was already on bail for nine offences at the time.
Through the western suburbs she drove of the wrong side of the road, through red lights and across multiple lanes of traffic while accelerating as quickly as she could.
City-bound she reached up to 140km/h before driving on tram tracks and through more red lights on busy AFL grand final day.
Khai Shien Chow, a 36-year-old Malaysian student, was in the city working as a delivery driver, something he'd turned to during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Laz struck him first. He was thrown off his scooter head first into the roof of the car before hitting the road. He suffered catastrophic and fatal injuries.
Laz swerved around debris and immediately struck a 64-year-old builder who had witnessed the devastation while crossing the road.
He was thrown face first onto tram tracks, unable to move due to a serious leg injury.
County Court Judge Claire Quin said police captured confronting footage of the crashes and Laz speeding away.
Nearly an hour after she set off, police orchestrated a collision to pin Laz's car. She ran from the scene but was caught and arrested.
Mr Chow's sister said a gaping hole had been left in their family, and their mother feels guilt about having him cremated in Australia rather than in Malaysia.
"She never had the chance to say goodbye in person or to hold his hand for one last time," she said.
Judge Quin said Laz's behaviour was self-indulgent.
She was found to have methamphetamine and amphetamine in her system at the time.
"You will spend the remainder of your young adult years in custody and a family has lost their son as a result of your drug ingestion and dangerous driving," she said.
She ordered Laz spend at least six-and-a-half years behind bars before she's eligible for parole.
