"I don't do B&Es (break and enters)," he told her over the phone. "I do home invasions and kill c***s."
Hicks and co-accused Samir Chamma are fighting charges they robbed and murdered father-of-two Warwick Hunter at his western Sydney home on November 15, 2020.
After a man referred to as Witness G told Chamma and Hicks that Mr Hunter, 49, was carrying a large wad of money, the duo and a third man drove to Mr Hunter's house in Toongabbie, crown prosecutor Shane Hughes told a NSW Supreme Court jury on Tuesday.
Seeing the front door was locked, Chamma ripped it off and the group entered the house, Mr Hughes said.
When Mr Hunter attempted to run to his bedroom, Hicks punched him before stabbing him multiple times in the torso and leg.
Mr Hunter was found dead outside his house soon after.
Later that night, Hicks and Chamma knocked at Witness G's door.
"Johnny f***ed up, he stabbed a guy," Chamma said.
"I stabbed him through the neck and I stabbed him through the side and it came out the front," Hicks said.
The day after, another man asked Hicks in a phone call how it was he had come into money.
"I just robbed some motherf***er," he responded.
In the period following Mr Hunter's death, Chamma and Hicks made efforts to cover their tracks, a sign of their awareness of their own guilt, Mr Hughes said.
The night after the stabbing, Chamma posted a video of himself on Snapchat burning the T-shirt he wore the night before, the jury heard.
Texting a woman he was in a relationship with, Hicks is told to dispose of the knife which he had left at her house.
He promises to get rid of it "when it's dark".
The Crown alleges Hicks stabbed Mr Hunter to death, and Chamma was part of a criminal enterprise to rob him at knifepoint and must have contemplated an intention to kill or cause grievous bodily harm.
Chamma denies he planned to rob Mr Hunter, was armed or knew that anyone with him was armed when coming to the house, defence barrister Andrew Norrie told the jury.
Hicks, meanwhile, denies attending Mr Hunter's residence at all.
Hicks was with two friends, shuttling between the pokies lounge of Seven Hills RSL and a house in the same suburb where they would go to take drugs, completely unaware of the the botched robbery happening at the same time, his barrister Troy Anderson SC said.
