Chris Welsh had arguably his best game of season 2022 when Benalla faced Kyabram in round four.
Coach Mark McKenzie has looked to the ever-consistent Welsh and his co-coach Will Martiniello to set the tone around the contest on numerous occasions this year.
But the midfield gun took his game to another level at Benalla Showgrounds in April, notching a season-high 38 disposals.
Welsh led the way in more ways than one, collecting an equal game-high 22 uncontested possessions, 17 contested possessions and 17 ground-ball gets.
It’s about as complete a performance as you could ask from a midfielder, and it’s not the only time he has produced a game of that quality this season.
When he rises, those around him look to go with him, with a number of Saints contributors also stepping up in round four.
James Martiniello racked up 35 touches, and brother Will 33, in what was a complete midfield performance.
The Saints registered 319 disposals to Kyabram’s 296, and narrowly lost out in the clearance battle 34-30.
It is imperative for Benalla that Welsh and co look to replicate a round four midfield showing this Saturday.
