On Thursday, August 7, Wilmot Rd Primary School turned blue for Jeans for Genes Day, with students, teachers and parents donning their trusty denim to raise funds for vital research into treatments and cures for the one in 20 children living with a birth defect or genetic disease.

The schoolyard was buzzing with activity, as junior school council members proudly ran cupcake and raffle stalls — their first major event — with blue cupcakes on offer for a gold coin donation.
Cupcakes and raffle prizes were generously donated by state Member for Shepparton Kim O’Keeffe, while local trades from the construction site next door popped in for coffee and a sweet treat to support the cause.
“I’m super proud of this fabulous bunch of leaders who organised and led their very first major event,” assistant principal Emma O’Keeffe said.
“I’m particularly proud of their politeness, respectful manner and the way they interacted with the community.”
