Tatura Junior Football coordinator Michael Reid said it was an opportunity for children to socialise and be a part of a team.
“They develop a lot of social skills, and it builds their confidence and self-esteem,” he said.
“It helps them belong to a group as well as exercise their physical abilities in a really healthy environment.”
There will be an information night and barbecue for under-9s and under-11s junior football at Tatura’s Main Oval on April 6.
“It's about having fun and enjoying their footy, getting to know teammates and then developing their football skills,” Michael said.
“We've got a really great community for the kids that play but also with the parents that are involved.”
Michael also encouraged girls to join the teams.
“The girls that applied have really loved it, and fit in really well and we'd like to see more girls playing.”
