Education Week is an important time on the school calendar, offering students and families a chance to reflect on the role education plays in building a strong, inclusive community.
The school has embraced the theme with a range of activities, including multicultural displays, classroom projects, student performances, and a community lunch.
Principal Gary D’Arma said the celebrations were about much more than showcasing traditions.
“Our school is made up of so many different backgrounds and experiences,” he said.
“Education Week gives us a chance to show that everyone’s story matters, and that everyone belongs here.”
This year’s theme is perfectly aligned with everyday life at Bourchier Street Primary School, where the school is always on the lookout to celebrate culture.
Students have been creating artwork, sharing family stories, and learning about different cultures through food, music and traditions.
“We often have families and local community members contributing to the school, which helps to strengthen the sense of connection beyond the school gates,” Mr D’Arma said.
The school has made sure all students can get involved in ways that suit them, with flexible activities and support where needed.
“Whether through art, storytelling, or simply joining in the celebrations, we make sure every student feels as if they have a place,” he said.
Education Week at Bourchier Street is a reminder that learning is not just about what happens in the classroom — it’s also about building a community where every child belongs.
