Organised by the Segmento Foundation with support from the Victorian Multicultural Commission and the City of Greater Shepparton, the festival gives the local community a taste of Southern European culture.
The festival will take place at Shepparton Showgrounds on September 29 after making its way through various locations in Victoria.
This event offers a chance to experience the lively rhythms of the Mediterranean without having to travel.
Dr Giovanni Butera of the Segmento Foundation explained the festival’s mission.
“The festival brings together Australian, Italian and Greek creatives to provide an original and immersive experience of traditional Italian music and dance,” he said.
“Participants and facilitators, including dancers, musicians, writers, poets and visual artists, are committed to promoting southern Italian and Southern European culture in the spirit of social cohesion.
“Workshops are thoughtfully organised for local primary schools, Italian clubs and associations, as well as elderly care centres, aiming to pass on knowledge, values and a sense of identity across generations.”
The festival will feature a line-up of artists with deep roots in Mediterranean music and dance. From experienced directors to award-winning performers, you can look forward to a rich blend of traditional and contemporary performances that celebrate and capture the spirit of Southern European culture.
The Segmento Tarantella Festival is an inclusive event. It welcomes everyone to enjoy live music and interactive performances that showcase the diverse traditions of the Mediterranean.
Mark your calendars, and don’t miss out on a cultural event that promises to be fun-filled.
