Rumbalara elders, staff, family and friends gathered at Rumbalara Elder's Facility on Tuesday, July 6, to celebrate NAIDOC Week and its 2021 theme - ‘Healing Country.'
After COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions last year, elders were overjoyed to connect, remember and rejoice at the enduring strength of the Aboriginal community.
“Let's celebrate. We're here, we're going to be here for a long time, so let's have a good week and tell our stories,” Elder Euphemia Day said.
“We've got to talk about those old dark days, but we rejoice — we're not going anywhere, we're always going to be here.
“I say to kids, `don't be sad, be happy, because you came with us, you know what's happened, and we're celebrating that we're still here'.”
